Build Your Own Self-Care Kit for Unapologetic Me Time

If you haven’t already built a self-care kit for yourself, it’s time. Your self-care kit should be built around you and your needs, likes, and happiness. You can use your kit daily, a few times a week, but gosh darn it make sure you use it! You needn’t apologize for taking time to care for yourself. This is the time to let loose, be free, and clear your head. You deserve it.

Build Your Own Self-Care Kit: Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it's self preservation.

Self-Care {Me Time}

I love this quote by Audre Lorde:

Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.

For the longest time I did not practice me time, I think back then I figured it was self-indulgent, I had people to care for and a zillion other things to do. Some people consider “me time” a bratty term used by people who are self-centered. Me time or self-care time, is actually not an act of selfishness, it’s an act of self-love and healing to be able to give unto others. Friends, you need this time. You need to get out of your head, you need to allow yourself some space, you need to be able to accept that it’s okay to do for you.

Building Your Own Self-Care Kit

Design your self-care kit around you; your needs, likes and happiness. Some of the items here may not fit you, but this lends you an idea of what you may consider implementing in yours.

Journals

Journals are a great way to let things out. You can write about your day, about what you are grateful for, or doodle. Gratitude is a great way to create positivity in your life, an attitude of gratitude has proven to be good for your health too. 🙂 We love this 1 minute gratitude journal. The self exploration journal  is one of my go to gifts, it’s the perfect book for “me time”.

Aromatherapy

When you are building your kit you have to consider all of your senses, smell is just as important as all the other senses. I think you may be rather impressed with the power of smells. How about lighting your favorite candle, misting some lavender oil  or maybe try this yummy lavender candle.

Treat Your Self

Speaking of senses…. you need a treat. Pour a nice hot mug of tea or coffee while you read, write, draw, color… RELAX. Chocolate may help to.

Good Reads

Raise your hand if you’ve ever started reading a book, but your mind kept going back to the things you NEED to get done. If you raised your hand then you certainly NEED this time. You can take 30 minutes to enjoy a good magazine or book. May we suggest, Big Magic? It’s a great read that will have you thinking more great things about your creative self. 🙂

Face masks!!

These Yes To Mud Masks have been my self-care saving grace. I put them on and relax. When you have a mud mask on you allow yourself to chill, because who wants to walk around with a mud mask on?

What will you add to your self-care kit? If you have a self-care kit already, what would you like to add to the list?

Stay positive, friends!

  1. I’m all for mud masks. I love all the different Shea Moisture mud masks especially. Journaling is also great for self care. I would also add good supplements and quality food on my self care list.

    • Yes, those are great to add to the list! Thank you. 🙂
I’m such a sucker for mud masks these days, and anything that says ehem… anti-wrinkle. 😀
Journaling is certainly so good for your soul.
      Thanks for visiting!

    • Aren’t they the best!?! I’ve been using a primrose oil mask and I love it. It’s nice to give my self a little TLC. 🙂

  2. Yes! We, as wives, mothers and women need special “self-care” time and having a kit all ready to go would make it that much more relaxing and productive!

    • Yes!! I could not agree with you more. I think as women we’re programed to put caring for others in front of ourselves. It’s noble, but we need to take care of us first to give to others. I’m glad I’ve finally adopted this mindset, it’s proving to be much more beneficial to me and my loves.

    • It really is important and it’s something so many of us don’t do for ourselves often enough.
Cheers to getting some self-care time to yourself this weekend!

  3. You know I’m all about women (particularly mom’s) making time for themselves. We need it to refuel and be the best person we can be! I love what you included in this list. Reminds me that I want to reread Big Magic soon.
