Positively shift your way of thinking about life, seems like it would be a pretty hard thing to accomplish, right? You couldn’t be more wrong! I am going to share with you a few ways that you can shift your way of thinking. You’ll be surprised at how quickly things can change with a little shift in how you think.
First, what is blocking you? Why are you feeling negativity taking over? What set you off? Was it a bad phone call, did someone cut you off in traffic, did you forget to get an ingredient at the store and you needed to make your dinner? Whatever it was, when compared to some things, it might not be as bad as you think. One bad thought or action can set off the spiral down effect which is the makings of a very bad day…and no one wants that
Shifting Your Way Of Thinking
Shifting your mindset doesn’t have to be a difficult task. It starts with you. All you have to do is shift your perspective. Let’s go back to someone cutting you off in traffic. Do you get mad, stick up a couple fingers, yell out the window, speed up and do unto others? No, stop! Stop yourself and think of this for one second. What if that person just cut you off because he just learned his wife is starting the birthing process and he’s in a hurry trying to get to her. Or, what if, he heard some bad news and he was going to the hospital to comfort his loved one. Either way, you have no reason to get mad or upset at the result of someone else’s actions that no longer play a roll in your life.
If you think for just a moment that the person who just cut you off, did not do it because he’s being a jerk, but because of some other unpreventable circumstance, it helps to shift our mindset.
It’s all in how you think. You can choose to think that the world is out to get you, or you can put a positive spin on it. What else can you do to shift your way of thinking?
Back it up
Take a step back and really take notice of what is around you. I’m not talking about material things, I’m talking about the people around you. Some of my best mindset shifts take place when I’m noticing other people. We all come in different shapes, sizes, colors, religions, etc…and yet we still can experience the same situations with other family members, friends, co-workers, bosses, and that same person cutting us off in traffic. Be present, be in the moment! Watch how others interact. See the smiles, watch the kids play and giggle. Seeing smiles and hearing giggles are game changing!
Take a Moment to Breathe
Sometimes all that’s needed for shifting your way of thinking is by simply taking a deep breath in, holding it for a few seconds and let it go, pushing the air out of your mouth, not your nose. Feel the air leaving your body and envision that it contains all the negativity you have been holding on to. Do it a few times. See how you feel. I bet you’ll feel better.
Whatever method you use to shift your way of thinking, your day will be better because of it.
